Australia has welcomed the President of the Republic of Palau to Brisbane to promote the Brisbane to Palau flight, a non-stop Qantas service from Brisbane to Koror, supported by the Australian Government.
President H.E. Surangel S. Whipps Jr’s visit underscores Palau’s potential as a premier tourism destination, with meetings held with tourism industry representatives and the Australia Pacific Islands Business Council.
“Palau is a stunning destination with great potential for growing its economy through tourism,” said Minister for International Development and the Pacific Pat Conroy. “Through the Australia-Pacific Partnerships for Aviation program, the Brisbane to Palau flight improves air connectivity in the Pacific, enabling a greater flow of tourists, professionals and cargo between Australia and Palau.”
Strengthening Australia–Palau Connections
The Brisbane to Palau flight is more than a route—it’s a symbol of resilience and integration in the Pacific. Initially served by Air Niugini and later Nauru Airlines, it is now proudly operated by Qantas through the Palau Paradise Express.
“This flight transcends its function as a mere transit route; it embodies the robust bond between Australia and Palau and underscores our shared dedication to fostering meaningful connections across the Pacific,” said President Whipps. “It represents a significant stride towards our vision of Palau as a key gateway connecting Asia with the North and South Pacific.”
Boosting Tourism in the North Pacific
With pristine oceans, white-sand beaches, and rich cultural heritage, Palau is a bucket-list destination for divers, eco-travellers, and adventurers. The direct Brisbane–Koror connection cuts travel time, making Palau more accessible and helping to diversify and grow its tourism sector after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Beyond tourism, the Brisbane to Palau flight strengthens trade, business, and cultural ties, supporting a two-way exchange of goods, services, and people. Australia’s involvement through the Australia-Pacific Partnerships for Aviation (P4A) program is part of its broader commitment to a resilient and connected Pacific region.
